Founded by jewelry designer Melanie Ankers in 2003, Kokkino has since established itself as a reliable source of elegantly simple and wearable, contemporary jewelry. Each collection is created by hand in our Worcester workshop, with the emphasis being on high-quality workmanship and timeless designs. We are also careful to cater for every budget and include pieces ranging from affordable to aspirational.
A Silversmithing and Jewelry graduate from the Jewelry School at UCE in Birmingham, Melanie makes use of sterling silver, 22ct gold plating, oxidization and vitreous enamels, to produce a sophisticated range of colour palettes and surface textures for Kokkino. Her love of colour, working with silver and enamels and time spent in Greece led her to choose the company name Kokkino, meaning ‘red’ in Greek.
“Increasingly I’m becoming fascinated with the rhythm and cadence given to a piece by repetition of a simple form, and how colour can flow through a piece and transform it utterly.” The pieces are incredibly tactile and often incorporate mobile elements, allowing the wearer to interact with the jewellery and bring it to life. Not surprisingly, they are a popular choice for the catwalk too and have appeared at The Clothes Show Live and The Jewellery Show, most recently.
