About the Artist
Elisabeth McCollough remembers from an early age being fascinated with
fashion and tool benches. While this may seem like an unlikely mix, it grew out
of the influence her grandparents had on her from a very early age. Growing
up in Rochester, New York, she was raised by her father with the help of his
parents. Children of the Great Depression, her grandparents possessed both
thrift and ingenuity; skills which translated into her grandfather being a self
taught engineer and her grandmother being a talented seamstress. However,
these were just their hobbies.
Elisabeth would spend hours watching her grandparents work in their
basement diligently crafting objects from their own hands. Stealing fabric
scraps to clothe her dolls or becoming amused by the bubble in her
grandfather’s level ruler are memories that remain vivid in her mind. They
also serve as a reminder of the foundations of her becoming a craftsperson
herself.
Always feeling a passionate call to work with her hands she took a jewelry
class her freshman year of high school. The love affair began. Jewelry was the
perfect combination of engineering and fashion! However it took her two years
of college to realize that she could actually pursue her dream career in spite of
those who would not believe she could make a living at it. She transferred to
the School for American Craftsman where she finally found her home.
In the past 12 years Elisabeth has had the amazing opportunity to work with
many amazing and talented craftspeople. It is through those relationships that
Elisabeth has been able to shape and refine her own style and craftsmanship.
With the indispensable help of her husband, Bradley, she has also created her
two most important works of art yet. They are her two children Maia, 4yrs and
Nico, 2yrs. They currently reside in Denver, Colorado.
It is Elisabeth’s hope that her jewelry will amplify an innate sense of beauty
and style in the wearer.
